Shefflin takes first managerial post

Kilkenny legend Henry Shefflin has taken his first major step into management after being appointed manager of his native club Ballyhale Shamrocks.

According to a report from the Kilkenny People, Shefflin and his brother Tommy will assume the Shamrocks’ reins in 2018, taking over from Andy Moloney and Colm Bonnar who have stepped down after four years in charge.

Having won a record 10 All-Ireland SHC medals with the Cats, the 38-year-old Shefflin only managed one championship appearance this past season in Ballyhale’s colours and it remains unclear whether or not he intends to line-out for them next year.

In his club career so far, Shefflin has won six senior county championship titles with the last victory coming in 2014 when the Shamrocks defeated Clara to claim the Tom Walsh Cup.
